Starting up faster. Crashing less. Still drawing freely.

Inkscape 0.92.3 is mainly a stability and bugfix release, but it also brings some small new features, like being able to set an ellipses' radii numerically in the tool controls, or switching the writing direction from left-to-right to right-to-left. Windows users will be happy to learn that the long startup times many of them were seeing could greatly be reduced. A new rendering option with an adjusted default value can vastly improve performance when working with filters.

Many of the bug fixes address important functionality, like printing issues, crashes with the node tool or problems with keyboard shortcuts.

Huge shout out to everyone involved in the project!

If you want to contact some developers in person, you can do that in the next Hackfest in a few days:

I haven't got my email open yet today.  But so far, I haven't heard of any video chats being set up.   Otherwise, contacting developers at the Hackfest would mean actually attending the Hackfest.

You can always contact developers via the mailing list or IRC channels (https://inkscape.org/en/community/)

In person = face to face - but RedHat doesn't allow everyone in, they need names in advance.

Really?
Been doing this banner thing for quite some time now yet you can't attend with no previous registering?
That's messed up for an open project.
Not that I'd have dropped in by accident anyway so I shouldn't be bothered...

That knowledge gap (about pre-registering) might be from not seeing the mailing list.  Whenever Hackfests are announced, and practically every time there's a message about it, there's a reminder to sign up on the wiki page, if you think you want to attend.  I don't think I've ever seen that mentioned in an offhand way - it's always in the "official" announcements.  But the main Hackfest wiki page probably urges you to sign up too.

Part of that is so payments can be arranged for travelling (if you have the proper prerequisites).  And partly they just want to sort out the agenda -- you know, who's going, what they want to work on, etc.

I don't think all Hackfests are held in places where you have to get pre-approval.  But apparently Red Hat does that.

It's a thing for the RedHat office, it's their policy for guests. The first two messages here are relevant for this, for example:

People need to register with RedHat at least 24 hours in advance, to be precise (that's not in those two emails)

Yes. There will be many new versions after the Hackfest. 'After', though, will not be now, but most probably some time next year.

But you'll probaby be able to get new features (or fixed bugs) by using a development version.  Those features or fixes might not be available right away, but eventually they will come.  And they'll be in a development version for some time, so they can be tested, before being released in a stable version.

However, another word for "development" version, is "experimental".  That version might not be very stable, for the new features.  So you should only use a dev version if you're willing to accept some...."glitches" and/or crashes.

I don't know, but I guess there may be an article or something, on the Inkscape website about what was done during the hackfest.  If so, it will probably be at least a couple of months from now.  Although it probably won't give many specifics - probably just generalities about the work.

Is there some particular new feature or fixed bug, that you're waiting for?

For a sneak peek, take a look at the release notes draft:
http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Release_notes/0.93 (I'll rename that page soon, I think, so the link will change)

Are tiled clones getting new features improvements? Maybe as LPE?

Not that I know of, no.
