Hi!

I am a newbie using Inkscape 0.91 running under Windows 7 Pro (Service Pack 1).

I have a 24 in by 36 in document saved as an Inkscape-SVG file.  I want to end with a 7200 px by 10800 px (77.76 Mpx) JPG file.  The file will be used for a 24 in by 36 in giclee print on canvas.

How do I do it?

FYI, for raster images, I use Corel PSP X6 (64-bit).

Thank you!

Welcome Doctor T!

Never having heard of "giclee", I did a quick search:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giclee   Fine art digital print made on inkjet printer.  So for that, CMYK would not be needed, correct?  (CMYK makes things more complicated for Inkscape.)

Inkscape doesn't natively save as or export JPGs, but there is an extension that you can install, which will do it.  I'm pretty sure this is the one you want:  https://github.com/giacmir/Inkscape-JPEG-export-extension.  I thought there was another, but can't seem to find it.  (Instructions to install it)

Since I've never used it, I don't know if it has the ability to export at a different size than what you send it.  I know for sure that Inkscape's native PNG export will do that (by changing the DPI) if you can use PNG instead.

I don't know if this would work (I get confused about dpi), but it seems like you could scale the 24 x 36 inch image (or a duplicate of it) to 75 x 112.5 inches (which is the same as 7200 x 10800 px, if I did the math right) and export that.  Then the printer can print to 24 x 36 inches.

Just wanted to share another way to do this for anyone else that might have the same issue.  I use GIMP (free/open source pgm) to convert to jpg.  I make a png in Inkscape, the open GIMP, open the file, then choose, file, export, which creates the jpg.  It works well (I export the jpg for microstock sites, so I know this works as I do it all the time).
