Hello,
I am using Inkscape version 0.91.1 r15371 on Windows 10.

I have created diagrams in about 30 files without a problem (excellent product by the way).

While editing one of those files I seem to have hit some key combination that stops me from selecting or creating any object. I have tried closing and re-opening the file but the problem persists. If I click on a tool the cursor changes as normal. I have tried hitting Ctrl-Z multiple times but it had no effect.

I do not have this problem with other files. I thought I would copy the object to another file and try it there but, I can't select it for the copy.

Any advice welcome.

Thanks in advance.

First, check the layers dialog to see if any layers are locked.
Then, also go to Object > Unlock all.

If that doesn't help, please share the file.

Welcome to the forum!

Or related to what Moini said, it's possible you have a layer locked on purpose.  But you accidentally have the locked layer selected or enabled. In that case, you would just need to select the layer which you want to draw on.

And I also agree, if a locked layer is not the culprit, please share the file.
