Yes, I think there are a couple of approaches for this. The most powerful one is Edit menu > Clones > Tiled Clones.

Another approach might be interpolation (Extensions menu > Generate from Path > Interpolate). The manual also has some info on that:

Oh, and I think there's an LPE which can do interpolation. Path menu > Path Effects > Interpolate Sub-Paths. I don't remember where to find instructions for that one, but it's probably not the best for your project anyway. But if you need info, let us know.
