I did select not to rasterize as I saved the file. In fact I have saved as various vector file types but none can be scale by my screen printer. Any suggestions. I am new to the app. but not having other major problems.   Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

It sounds like you are having 2 problems, right?  If not, then I don't understand how the printing size is related to email.

I'm not familiar with "screen printer".  Is it for screen printing, like putting designs on t-shirts?  Or is it something similar to the Prt Scr key?

You can find your Inkscape version by Help menu > About Inkscape.  The version might be especially important for your problem of printing at the correct size, because Inkscape has recently changed it's native DPI from 90 to 96.  And there are some new settings to deal with for this too.

EPS (if I remember correctly) can containg both raster and vector contents.  Before you send the EPS file, have you double-checked that the file you sent was all vector?  I won't be able to help much for testing, because I'm not set up to open EPS files.

If they in fact were sent as vector images, I don't know how they could have been changed by emailing them.  As far as I know, files are never opened during emailing.  How could the content be changed without accessing it?

Sorry. To clarify, I create images as Vectors, save them as EPS which is required by my screen printing company. Files are attached in Emails and sent. When the printer gets them they say they are not scale-able vector files and charge me to convert them. Not sure why that happens.

OOoohh -- screen printer is where you're sending the files! I guess we would need to have a discussion with them about it, to figure out what's happening.  All I can suggest is to make sure the EPS files are vector before you send them.  I really don't think emailing can affect the contents of files.

Just converting them to EPS does not mean they are necessarily vector, or all vector.  You definitely should open and inspect them before sending.

I'm not sure how EPS handles gradients or filters.  There probably is an option in the Save As EPS dialog regarding rasterizing certain contents.  So you should make sure that option is disabled.

As I said, I'm not set up to be able to open EPS file, or else I would offer to examine one of your files.  But other members might be able to have a look, if you'd like to share a typical EPS file.

As far as I know, partial transparency (e.g. transparent shadows) and filters (e.g. blur) won't work with eps. Can you share an example file, as asked for by Brynn?

I've seen conflicting info about EPS ability to handle transparency.  Some things I've read say it can't, other things (and other user's experience) say it can.

But it sounds like there's something in the file which is being rasterized, something besides filters, since you disabled rasterizing of filters.

I wonder how the conversion handles things like LPEs?  I wonder if it would rasterize LPEs?

You could try selecting everything in the file, and doing Path menu > Object to Path.  So in case an LPE is the culprit, that will make them regular paths.

It cannot deal with *partial* transparency. It does work great with normal transparency. So either fully transparent, or fully opaque, but no objects with, say, 50% transparency. See also https://stackoverflow.com/questions/29321707/can-transparency-be-used-with-postscript-eps

Thanks everyone. Still can't get EPS files to send but sent as PDF. That worked since it was a vector file originally it could be used. Still would like to figure out the EPS deal.
I appreciate any info.  Thanks  -Rich

Rich, you'd need to share these things for us to be able to help:
1. The SVG
2. The EPS
3. A screenshot of the settings for EPS export (Inkscape asks you upon saving)

Oh, and your Inkscape version can be looked up via Help -> About (top right corner, we don't need all of it, only if it's 0.92, 0.92.1 or 0.92.2 (or even 0.91).
