Empty margin around outside of path preventing normal use of alignment tool
I created an SVG using this website:
https://en.makercase.com/
It takes dimensions you give it and creates a file that you can use on a laser cutter to make a box. I need to work on the files because I want my box to be more complex. I'd like to be able to align stuff to the pieces but I can't get an accurate alignment because for some reason there is a margin around the outside of the path and the alignment happens to the outside of this margin. Here's a screenshot showing the problem:
Here's a link to the output from that website:

Could anyone explain why there is this magin around the path and how to eliminate it? Thanks.

You could:
- Remove all occurrances of 'vector-effect: non-scaling-stroke;' from the SVG file with a text editor to fix it.
- Or just remove the stroke entirely.
- Or use 'geometric bounding box' instead of 'visual bounding box' - which is probably the best solution here. Edit > Preferences > Tools.

Not entirely sure this would work, but perhaps you could save it as a pattern, then you could adjust as needed. (Object>Pattern>Objects to Pattern, then select that pattern from the Fill N Stroke box).
