I have downloaded the latest version of Inkscape into my MacBook Pro laptop. I cannot get it to work
I have deleted it a number of times and loaded again and it makes no difference.
I have followed some videos on youtube but its not working...

I made the mistake of removing an old version of Inkscape which was working fine and then uploaded a new version.

It looks like Inkscape had uploaded into the computer but when I turn it on the screens from X show up wit squares on it instead of any writing or boxes... I can click on it and it brings another screen but i have ni idea what I am clicking on....

can someone suggest what i may have done wrong please

cheers

Welcome to the forum!

I'm not a Mac user, but I guess you need to take steps to install it.  Just downloading it doesn't install it.  Since I'm not a Mac user, the only thing I can suggest, is to follow all the instructions on the download page.  Let's see....  Ok, on this page

https://inkscape.org/en/release/0.92.3/mac-os-x/dl/

click "Download Inkscape 0.92.2 (previous version)"  (it's in bold orange text) and it will open a page with the 3 choices for Macs.  Each one gives instructions for installing, although 2 of them require you to build or compile the program yourself.  I guess the XQuartz option is probably the easiest.

Here's some more info about using Inkscape on a Mac, in case you haven't seen it before:  https://inkscape.org/en/learn/faq/#mac-os-x-specific-issues

Thanks brynn for your help it was great you replied, :ty1:

as it turns out the XQuartz was the problem and my laptop was trying to use the X11 instead :b1: :duh:
Once I fixed that it has worked again... :xf1: :xf2: :beg:

Inkscape is one of my favourite programs and you have no idea the excitement I felt once I had it up again its been a lonely week without it... :yay: LOL

Just to let you know if you download XQuartz correctly and Inkscape the program will run straight away without having to do anything else... that has been my experience in the past and this time too... just incase any other Apple users see this post... :2tu:
