When I downloaded Inkscape all my SVG pictures in my folder changed into Inkscape icons.  The picture of what is in the folder is gone but the file is fine.  It makes it difficult to see what is in each folder without having to open it.  I used to be able to see the picture of the SVG file in each folder.  Does anyone know if I can change this?  Thanks for any information.  I am using windows Vista, 64 bit.

Welcome sunshinesity!   :w1:

Windows doesn't show the thumbnails for SVG images.  But there's a little program you can install, that will make them show up.

https://svgextension.codeplex.com/

I haven't used it myself.  I'm using a much older and similar type of thing, which is not available anymore.  But I'll be interested to hear how it works.  If you decide to try it, would you post back, and let us know how goes for you?

(What I'm using can only show some of the SVGs, but it doesn't show them all.  So I might install this, if it does a better job than what I have.)

Good luck, and thanks  :D

I am not a designer or computer techie.  I am a crafter.  When I make cards or scrapbook pages I often use SVG files.  When I download a file a thumbnail gets saved into my SVG file folder.  I used to be able to see a small picture of the object I downloaded, ie: a flamingo.  Now the thumbnail is labelled flamingo but instead of seeing a flamingo I see the inkscape icon.
I downloaded the program you suggested.  I think it installed.  I still cant see pictures of some of my SVG's.  The JPEG and PNG shows the picture but not the SVG.
Not sure what to do next or if I can fix it myself.
Thanks for the info.

Well, I broke down and installed it myself.  It seems to work beautifully!!  I looked all over that website, and I didn't see anything about maybe it doesn't work on Vista, or something like that.  But I didn't see anything like that.

Let's start from the beginning.  Are you using a laptop or desktop computer?  For a laptop,  you should have downloaded the 64-bit version.  Or for a desktop, you should have downloaded the 32-bit version.

So double-check you got the right one.

For me, on Windows 7,  when I first double-clicked on the EXE file, I got some kind of error message (I don't remember the exact words).  I think you should get that error message too, on Vista, but I'm not positive.

Ok, I'll stop there for now.  Let me know if you've gotten this far, and I'll go on to the next steps  :)
