I just upgraded from version .41 and no longer see the "darken edges" filter? What happened to it?

Welcome to the forum!

Upgraded from 0.41?  Wow, it might take some research on that.  Can you explain exactly what the filter does?  Does it just apply an outline?  Or does it put kind of a shadow on the edges?

Once we can understand what it does, we can either suggest a newer filter which does the same thing, or maybe even help you draw the effect yourself.

Or if you might happen to still have an SVG file, with that filter applied to something in that file, we can tell you how to install the filter, and then it will always be available, no matter which version you're using.

See http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/SpecCustomPredefinedFilters

Could the missing filter be an 'inner shadow' and thus be obtained by using Filters -> Shadows and Glows ... -> Drop Shadow : Inner?

The filter in question is :

It's available in version .48 - but nothing newer. The filter does just like it says, darkens the edges. I use this filter a lot on text - thank you for your time.

Merry Christmas!

As the linked text says, many filters have been replaced by others.

Please try out if the 'inner shadow' described in my post above does what you intend to do. I think it will.

I think they may just have rearranged it into another filter, and forgot to mention the 'darken edges' part in the Wiki.

Also, as I mentioned, if you happen to have an SVG file where that filter is used, we tell you how to install it.  Then you would have your own custom Darken Edges filter to use.

Or if you can show us an example of the text where the filter is used, we can either suggest another filter (if the one Moini suggested doesn't work) or a way to create the effect without a filter.

Actually, I might have a copy of 0.48 on another computer.  When I have a chance to turn it on (if it turns on again - it's pretty old now).  If I can find it, I'll save a copy for you, and attach it to this thread.  Or if I can find even more time, I'll install 0.48 on this computer, and make you a copy.  Maybe later today.  :)
