Hello!

I've read every tutorial I can find and watched youtube videos, but most of them appear to be from Inkscape 4.something. I'm trying to get pressure sensitivity to work with either the pencil tool or calligraphy tool, (i.e. I press hard, thick line, I press soft, thinner line.)

For the pencil tool I can get a tapered line, but it appears to be more based on speed than pressure, and I can't figure out how to change the line size.

For the calligraphy tool, I've tried all of them (marker is the one I would most likely use,) messed around with the settings, made sure pressure sensitivity was clicked 'on,' (and that it's clicked on in configurations,) tried to edit through preferences (no option to) and I also tried to mess with the stroke via Paths > Path Effects.

Help!  :???:

Thank you in advance!

Welcome to the forum!

Inkscape can only provide pressure sensitivity with the use of a graphics tablet (e.g. Wacom, et al.).  It won't work on the canvas/ui, without that hardware.

If you are using such a tablet, and you have all the options set properly, we could file a bug report.  The developers have historically kept Inkscape compatible with that kind of technology, so there's a good chance they can  get it working on your tablet, before too long.

One known issue that we hear about once in a while, is if you have the computer mouse sitting on top of the tablet, it doesn't work properly.

If you use a tablet, a graphics tablet (not a tablet such as an iPad) what kind it is?

Although to be honest, I'm not sure about these touch screens.  Is that what you mean?

Pressure sensitivity will only work with the calligraphy tool (and with the spray tool in 0.92).

Can you tell us if your tablet works in other programs (such as gimp or krita), and which one you use, which operating system, which Inkscape version, and if you did restart the application?

Also, what are your settings in the 'input devices' dialog?

Did you activate pressure sensitivity in the Inkscape preferences? Edit -> Preferences -> Input/Output -> Input devices
