Hello, guys. I'm new here.
I have a question. How do you guys change the cache folder? The folder location in preference doesn't react when I type and click it.

Welcome to the forum!

Could you be more specific about either the cache folder or the Inkscape preference setting you're talking about?

Oh, I just realized what you might be talking about.  Are you looking to change Inkscape Preferences > System > User Cache location?  The easy answer is you can't.

The hard answer, is there's a way, but I don't understand it.  But I think there's another message about it in this forum.  I'll search and be right back.

Edit
If you can skip through all of my unrelated questions, I think you might find the answer here (assuming I understand your question correctly).  If I didn't understand, please be more specific about what you want to do.

I just want to change the cache folder. In preference I can't change it. Thanks for your answer, but really your answer is more confusing.

Again, which cache folder?  If you're talking about Inkscape Preferences > System > User Cache, there's no easy way to do it.

I think there might be a hard way to do it (well, at least it would be hard for me).  And I think the explanation how to do it lies in that message thread which I referenced earlier.   Although I'm not positive.  A lot of that message is confusing to me as well.

If this is the cache folder you want to change (Inkscape Preferences > System > User Cache), can you say why?  That might lead us to an easier solution.

If that's the one you want to change, and that referenced message doesn't say how, then someone else will have to explain it for you.  I don't know how.

Thanks for the reply.
I don't understand why you are asking for which cache folder. Cache folder means the cache folder. I want to change the cache folder location in preference. Is it hard to understand?

Every major application have the option to change the cache folder. I can find the indication of where the cache folder is in preference in Inkscape. However I can't change it cause clicking and typing on it doesn't react at all.

If you said it is impossible I would just give up, but you were saying like there is a way to do it. I don't really understand what you are talking about.

I see you are trying to help me, thanks for the mind, but you better stop posting your opinion when you don't have the knowledge for it.

Inkscape doesn't offer that option via the interface.
It is always using .cache/inkscape in your home folder for the cache.

You can set an environment variable, though.

This is how the value is determined:

On UNIX platforms this is determined using the mechanisms described in the XDG Base Directory Specification. In this case the directory retrieved will be XDG_CACHE_HOME.

On Windows it follows XDG Base Directory Specification if XDG_CACHE_HOME is defined. If XDG_CACHE_HOME is undefined, the directory that serves as a common repository for temporary Internet files is used instead. A typical path is C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files. See the documentation for CSIDL_INTERNET_CACHE.

Thanks for the reply, Moini. Inkscape seems to be a great app, but the fact nobody talks about it is disappointing.

:) You can help us talk about it, if you like - we've got an outreach team that works on making Inkscape known to an even larger audience (and to get more contributors, so we can do more good things).

The next group meeting is next week Saturday (https://gitlab.com/inkscape/vectors/general/issues/115) - would be great if you could join us!
