I've spent countless hours over the last week creating images in Inkscape 0.92 as I learn fine points of using it. I did not pay enough attention when Inkscape crashed a couple of times to explain circumstances. I was experimenting, so it didn't matter that I lost work. Shortly after the crashes, while following along with Nick Saporito's excellent YouTube tutorial on creating page curls, both the fill and stroke functions quit working while I was editing a gradient.
Troubleshooting steps:1. I closed and restarted Inkscape a couple of times. I created objects with both
and
tools. All appear with ghostly pale, super-thin outlines and no fill. I am unable to alter stroke or fill.
2. I turned off my computer overnight. No results.
3. I noticed transparency was set to 50%. Changing that did nothing.
4. I downloaded and installed Inkscape 0.92.4. I don't know which version I had been using (the splash screen shows only .92), but I'd had it installed for at least a couple of months. No change.
5. I opened a file saved before this problem occurred. I'm able to change fill and stroke on existing objects but not new ones created in the same document.
6. I checked Inkscape on my laptop. It works fine.
7. Recalling just now that I was working on a gradient fill when it quit working, I had an idea. I drew a rectangle and clicked the gradient icon for fill. Eureka! A gradient appeared. That seemed to unclog the process. All functions are working again.
The silver lining in this frustrating cloud is that I now have the very latest version installed. Does anyone have a clue why this jammed up?
