When running older Windows programs such as Photoshop CS3 (but also Inkscape) on a high resolution screen such as those found on the Surface Book and Surface Pro the programs can look so small that they are hard to use.

There is a way to fix this using a manifest file for inkscape.exe, and a small fix in the registry.

Read how to do it here: http://www.lovemysurface.net/fix-scaling-issues-older-windows-apps/

I have tried it, and it works very well on Inkscape

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for the info!

Note that some people have found it dissatisfying to use Inkscape on a high res screen.  So much that they have exchanged their computer for a regular screen.  I haven't learned exactly where the problem lies (Inkscape or the screen).  But if you see any display issues, please feel free to discuss.  However, I hope you don't have any problems  :)

As far as I know high-res icon issue is intended to be solved by upgrading to gtk 3 for 0.93.

Thanks for the tip!  :ty1:
It works on Win10 Pro x64; learning on: Inkscape 0.92.0 r15299

I was seeing veeery tiny icons at 3840 x 2160 resolution (Window's custom scale is at 200% but Inkscape doesn't consider that scale I am guessing?).

Hi! From what I can tell, this requires building Inkscape? I'm strictly an end-user. So, yikes! Are there instructions for dummies? Because at this point I need a magnifying glass to use Inkscape 0.92.3 (2405546, 2018-03-11) on my new laptop. That's not exactly sustainable.

Thank you!
Andy

Yes, there are. Just download and install it, see https://inkscape.org/en/release/master/?latest=1

But it's really not intended for production use, unless you can live with a couple of new bugs and/or unexpected crashes, and remember to activate autosave.

In case you later want to go back to a previous version, better save your old preferences file somewhere (e.g. just rename it to preferences.xml.0.92.3 or similar).

Our main Windows developer just mentioned another option for fixing this in the chat:

right-click inkscape.exe and choose properties to get to the dialog:
