Hi,
I've used Inkscape for a while now. I got a new PC with Win10 on it. After installing it, everything seems to work, except for the grid shortcut.
I've deleted and reinstalled different versions of the program with different installers for over and hour now, using basically every possible install option from 0.92.4 down to 0.92.2 to fix.
I've deleted and kept the remaining inkscape (in "Roaming" and in "Program files") after uninstalling it...no matter what I do, I can't seem to fix it.
(That procedure fixed it at my new home PC, and now I'm having the same issue at work and cannot fix it)

It drives me mad...I really need this grid. I can click it manually in the "View" tab...but as often as I use it, that can't be a permanent solution...

Cheers,
Someguy.

Welcome to the forum!

And so the problem is that the shortcut for turning on the grid doesn't work?  That's one of the few key shortcuts I use, so I know it's Shift + 3 (or the number sign), unless you changed it?  Could you have customized that shortcut previously?  If you don't remember, you can double-check in Inkscape Preferences > Interface > Keyboard Shortcuts.

Of course, you have to have a grid enabled, in Document Properties, or else there's no grid to enable.  There should be a rectangular grid by default, unless you previously disabled it?  Check in Document Properties > Grids tab, and make sure there's a grid enabled.  Oh, and check that there's both an enabled and visible grid, since it's possible to set them not to be visible.

I suppose it's possible to have made the grid lines so transparent that you can't see them, or you could have switched it to dots instead of grid lines.  Those are both set in Document Properties too.

Oh, or possibly there's a custom document in play for this problem?  Either you usually use a custom template but you weren't testing with it, or vice versa?

Does any of that help?

YES Shift+3 works!!
Thanks!

but # is still saved as the shortcut and doesn't work. I even changed it from # to something else and back to # again...doesn't work
Now I have simply put "3" in there, that works. Seems like inkscape just doesn't like my "#" key.  Just weird. As I said, I had the same problem on 2 different PCs, with (obviously) 2 different keyboards.

Cheers,
SomeGuy
