Not real important and probably not possible, but is there a way to make the plain .svg format the default save?  I've had the Inkscape .svg goof me up a couple times and I'm slow to catch the problem.

I'm not sure what you're asking.  Do you mean that you want the Save As dialog to show Plain SVG rather than Inkscape SVG, in the Save As Type field?

No, I guess you'd have to hack the Inkscape code to do that.  But it doesn't seem all that time consuming to drop down the menu and choose Plain SVG.

Once you've saved a file as Plain SVG, then the next time you Save the file (using File menu > Save, or the Save button, and not using File menu > Save As) it will save it as Plain SVG.  It will keep right on saving whatever the file was originally.

But, if you always use Save As, you'll always have to drop down the menu and choose Plain SVG.

Yes that was what I was asking, but I didn't realise that once saved in a plain format it would continue to save that way.  I wasn't thinking of the time but me remembering to do it.

Oh, I see.  Then I guess it doesn't help you much, because you'll have to remember even more now - when to use Save and when to use Save As.  But maybe after a while it will become part of your workflow, and you won't have to remember as much.

I guess I didn't think it through.  If I'm working on a project I only need to remember to save it as a plain svg the last time, when I'm ready to use it.  Until then saving as an Inkscape svg is fine.
