I went online to Inkscape and saw "Latest stable version: Inkscape 0.91 - This .dmg file is for Mac OS X 10.7-10.10 and requires XQuartz."

Great. But my computer (MacBook Pro) is Mac OSX El Capitan v. 10.11.6 (15G1004)

Can I still download Inkscape? If there's a better, more updated version I should be using, please redirect me. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum!

I'm not a Mac user, so I can't give you a straight answer for that.  But this section of the FAQ explains everything, which will probably make more sense to you.  The particular item you need to look at is not at the top, it's a few sections down.

Also, there are detailed installation instructions somewhere.  Let's see if I can find....  Oh yes, here:

https://inkscape.org/en/download/mac-os/

You may already be on that page, I'm not sure.  Be sure to read everything there, including all the links, and you'll have all the info there is.

But if you still have questions, feel free to ask.  We'll figure it out  :)

I think it will work, if you mind the section about disabling Gatekeeper. But I can't promise... The next version, which is going to be released within the next couple of days, however, won't (at first, at least) be available for OS X. If you happen to know some OS X developers, or well versed users, please ask around if someone could imagine to help the Mac users out with this.

Hi JenNilesinMA et al,

I just joined minutes ago and came directly here on the same question: I have OS X El Capitan V 10.11.6

Jen -- were you able to get going with Inkscape?

Welcome to the forum!

Have you followed these instructions?  https://inkscape.org/en/download/mac-os/  And some more info on using Inkscape on a Mac system here:  https://inkscape.org/en/learn/faq/#mac-os-x-specific-issues

In case you run into trouble with MacPorts, we've just recently been notified about and unofficial test DMG version:  https://inkscape.org/en/~tghs/★inkscape-0921-tghs_2-x11-107-x86_64dmg

The stable version is expected to be ready in time for version 0.92.2.  :)

Tim has just asked for a merge into the 0.92.x branch, only an hour ago or so. Seems like he and su_v are happy enough with the changes :D
