Hi everyone,

I have an inkscape file with text in Arial Narrow Normal. But when I opened it today, everything was in Arial Narrow Bold and I can't change it back to Arial Narrow Normal. I can only choose out of Bold, Italic and Italic Bold. How could Normal be disappeared and how could i get it back. I've tried to re-download the font a multiple times, re-opened the file but nothing works. I can't also choose the font in new files. It seems to be totally disapppeared from my computer, but according to the Font Settings it is still there.

Could anyone help me?

Thanks,
Lucas Mulder

Can you recall what changed on your system? I.e.:

- new Inkscape version?
- new operating system / update?
- new font manager software?
...

Arial Narrow Bold?  That's a bit like shopping for blue jeans, and finding a size called 12 Short Tall!  (or for men 34 Short Tall)

Did you see the "Arial Narrow Bold" in the status bar of Inkscape, when the text is selected?  Or did you see it in the Font menu when the Text tool is enabled?  Or where did you see it, exactly?

I know, that's why i want it back to be normal Arial Narrow.

Did you see the "Arial Narrow Bold" in the status bar of Inkscape, when the text is selected?  Or did you see it in the Font menu when the Text tool is enabled?  Or where did you see it, exactly?
Yes I see "Arial Narrow Bold" in the bar above. In the drop-down-menu I can only choose "Bold", "Italic" and "Italic Bold", no "Normal"

Holy crap, Lazur.  You either have mad search skills, or a mad memory!  Or both!

LucusMulder, at the link Lazur provided, it sounds like Inkscape has a problem with Arial Narrow, for some reason.  In that message, someone mentioned that they use a font called "Liberation Sans Narrow" as a substitute for Arial Narrow.  Maybe that would be an option for you?  It looks like "Liberation Sans Narrow" comes installed on Windows.

Wait....  What version of Inkscape are you using?  I have Arial Narrow Normal available in version 0.92.3.

Could you share one of those files where you're having trouble?  Maybe we can spot something to fix it?

You either have mad search skills, or a mad memory!

Not sure about it, remembered as it was a recent topic of a few months ago.
Could it be there was another topic? Did a search before but didn't see that topic I remembered -was a bit longer, with more people jumping in.
Which topic was also arial narrow related?
Taking another search.

Edit: getting closer.
This one was "right after" that other topic
missing fonts
-and eventually this has the sum of the previous solution.

missing font

Side related with bug reports
Scribus finds fonts which Inkscape doesn't

Most I can dig up is about inkscape having troubles with fonts not up to the css specs and other problems regarding text objects in-line and t-span styling options. Maybe I just confused it with this topic.
