Hello,

I am trying to remove the inside of the 'P' from the letter so it can become part of a transparent background.

If I delete the inner bit it just all turns blue, like an infilled 'P'.

At the moment when I export as a png the background is transparent apart from the inside of this 'P'

Any help would be appreciated.

Can you share a file? Maybe there's an additional object in your file. The white fill in the p (if it is derived from a letter), should always be transparent.

tbh I just pressed delete, I then had a look around the program (I am new to it) to see if there was a way to edit the background P shape. I couldn't see anything so found this forum.

See attached. I used vectormagic online to make the original letters taken from a sign with a bit of tweaking. This is why I am having trouble I think as it is not derived from a letter.

Ok, now the clouds have parted!  After some inspection, we see that the blue letter P doesn't have a "hole" where it needs to be.  You can see that yourself by just dragging the white inner piece aside (and then Undo).  (And you can also see why just deleting it didn't work.)  We couldn't have guessed that from the JPG image you shared.  Or that there's a separate object of the exact shape and size of the "hole".   But now we can explain how to do this.

 - Select both the main P object and the white inner object (you can do that, in this case, by Ctrl + a (select all) or by dragging a selection box around everything)
 - Path menu > Difference

Note that the separate white piece disappears.  It's more or less consumed in the process.

If you need to do this to a lot more text, there are some tricks to avoid having to do it one letter at a time.  Let us know if you'd like to hear them.  (I would explain, except that some people like to figure things out for themselves.)

Perfect, thanks Brynn. That is super helpful!

I knew it would be something simple, it's just knowing the right terms and tools etc. There are only a couple of letters and objects so I will just do them individually.

Actually, that was my guess...

My apologies.  I should I have said "I couldn't have guessed".
