I have a template 8 1/2 x 11. I put 1/4 inch squares in each corner. I have my printer set to 8 1/2 x 11, no margin, no scaling. When I select and preview it, the squares are not in the corner, they dont show. When I print out it is the same as the preview screen. I have .92.4 just downloaded.

Welcome to the forum!

Try saving that same document as PDF, and print from your PDF viewer.  If you still have the same problem, I would say the problem is somehow with the printer.  If it prints correctly, we'll need to look up whether this has been reported as a bug before, and if not, report it.  Not unless someone else knows it's already been reported.

At least that's what I'm thinking.  I'm not super well-informed about printing (don't even have one currently).  So I could be wrong.  But that's my theory anyway.

Inkscape's printing abilities are extremely basic.  We typically suggest saving as PDF and using a PDF viewer to print from.  I not sure, but I think I saw where developers are doing some work on printing for the next new version (the long awaited 1.0).

Edit --
I wouldn't think zoom would affect printing.  But just in case, you can make sure Inkscape is at 100% zoom.

I saved the file as a pdf file and tried to print on two different printers and got the same results. Nothing except for the left vertical side of the squares  on the left side of the page.  The print previews do not show anything. The modify does make a difference for it had defaulted to 82 and other images I printed were reduced, so I made it 100 percent  but still does not solve the initial issue of not printing the 4  1/4 inch squares in the corners.

If it does not print the squares with PDF viewing software, then there must be something with the printer.  A long time ago (over 10 years) the last time I had a printer, I tried the same thing, to print without any margins.  I seem to recall that the printer always has some margins, even if I changed some settings to remove margins.  But I don't remember any details, so I can't even tell you where to look for answers.

I guess if it were me, I'd look into my printer documentation, maybe look for support options.

Or maybe someone else will answer here, who knows more about it than me?

You know, now that I think about it, it might be impossible to print without any margins.  I mean, I'm thinking about the hardware.  It would have to allow ink so close to the edge of the paper, that the ink would get on the hardware, and on the spindles (or whatever the heck is inside a printer, where the ink comes out - I have no idea).  I think for the good of the hardware, the designers of the hardware probably don't want ink getting so close to the inner workings of the machine.

But that's just my simple-minded brainstorming.  I really know hardly anything about it.

What do the pdfs look like when you open them in a pdf viewer? Are they incomplete?
