Hi. I was humming along designing a circular logo when the ellipse tool stopped making circles. Instead, It made dotted squares which disappeared unless I selected them. I must have hit something in my haste but I don't know what. My searches on the subject turned up one discussion in 2009 but nothing definitive about how to fix the issue was suggested. The man who inquired seemed to accidently fix it but gave no details. Can someone tell me what happened and how to fix it?

Welcome to Inkscape Community!

This tutorial will help you find the problem.  http://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/index.php?action=articles;sa=view;article=18  (Likely it's become transparent.)

Thanks for the link, Brynn!! I fixed it in a New York minute!! For future reference for anyone else who needs to know -- I had turned off the fill attempting to outline the circle. Instead, I made the object transparent. To fix it, I changed it in preferences (File -Inkscape Preferences or CTRL-SHIFT-P). Scroll down to Shapes. Highlight Ellipse (or whichever). The Fill and Stroke options appear. Choose "This tool's own style." Done!
