ARC DETAILS

Hi.

I thought it might be "handy" to share some details regarding creating Arcs in Inkscape.

You would start by pressing F5 or the Circle and Ellipses Tool and then press the Icon called "Switch to Arc". (It is the middle of the 3 icons associated with Circles and Ellipses.)

Then, depending upon the values you place in the Start and End Positions the Arc is created.

To know the Angle of the Arc created (in Degrees), you subtract the Start Position Number from the End Position Number.

For instance, using a Start Position of 180 and an Ending Position of 360, the Arc created is 180 degrees. (360-180 = 180).

The attached graphic - "ARC DETAILS" - has a list of Key Starting and Ending Positions to yield various Arc Angles.

Such Arcs can be useful in general design, as well in applying to a Text, to create an "Arched Text" end result.

The graphic has Pairs of Start and End Positions to create clockwise Arcs that cover the "Top", "Bottom", "Left" and "Right" portions of a complete Circle.

Play around with these numbers to better "see" what I am referring to.

(You are not limited to these number Pairs ... you can type in any Starting and Ending Positions you wish.)

If you don't need some specific size or value for the arc, you can drag them out manually, using the tiny circle handles.  If you keep the mouse outside of the circle or ellipse while you drag, it makes what I call a "wedge", but what Inkscape calls a "segment".  If you keep the mouse on the inside of the circle while you drag, it makes an arc.
