Why do blurs show up as solid objects in copy-formats?

At least, they do in PNG. I think they do in JPEG, too, although it's been a long time since I used JPEGs.

Is there some copy-format-- something I load to an image-hosting site without being told I'm using an invalid format-- that will actually show what I see in SVG?

PS. Filter textures, too.

Are you using File menu > Export PNG ?  If so, it's possible you don't have the proper configuration?  Can you show us an SVG file with one of the images that isn't exporting properly?  Or at least screenshots showing how you have set up the Export PNG dialog.

If you're using Save As > Cairo png, don't use that.  It doesn't work.  If you're using that, that's probably why it's not exporting properly.  Try Export PNG Image.

...I'm not getting <i>any</i> dialogue from "export png". I don't think it's even saving the file- I just tried it three times in a row and didn't get the "you already have a file with this name" message.

Then look on the right side of the Inkscape window.  It's probably opening in the docking area.

Okay thanks, that did the trick.

(It's amazing how many thing I don't know after so many years of using Inkscape for pretty much one thing. I may be cluttering up the Dumb Noob Questions forum in the near future).
